What makes an A1 Host?
When we think of an A1 host, what comes to mind? Is it their years of experience? Their fame? Their social media following? Or perhaps their affordability?
While opinions may differ, one thing remains true—an exceptional host gets the job done! And that, in my opinion, is what separates the many from the few who can truly deliver an unforgettable event.

Here are some key traits that I believe make the best event MCs or hosts (and yes, anyone can develop them!):
Relatability – A great host understands their audience. Whether it’s a family gathering, a corporate event, or a church function, familiarity with the crowd is crucial. If you’re not familiar, do your homework!
The Ability to Handle Anything – Events rarely go exactly as planned. Power blackouts, no-shows, technical failures—you name it! The best hosts stay composed and keep the event flowing smoothly. Quick tip: Always have icebreakers at the ready and minimize distractions. Personally, I avoid checking social media or taking calls while hosting.
Avoid Being the Center of Attention – Tough pill to swallow, but true. As a host, you’re there to serve. Show up early, over-communicate with the client, collaborate with service providers, and make the event about the guests—not yourself.
Confidence in Who You Are – Confidence isn’t about being the loudest or the most articulate. It’s about owning your unique presence. You don’t have to be the best-dressed or the most accomplished—just be YOU. When you embrace that, you’ll command the room effortlessly, without feeling the need to prove anything.
Authority with Humility – An A1 host understands that they hold the room’s attention for the duration of the event. But they use this authority to serve—making everyone feel seen, recognized, and at home, no matter the occasion.
